Moon Of Labrador

I jokingly refer to Labradorite as a Canadian opal, because of the flashes of color.  Labradorite was first found in Labrador Canada in the 1700’s and is also found in Norway and the former USSR.  A similar stone is called spectrolite, and is found only in Finland. Watch this blog for an interesting necklace I’m creating from it.

I came across this round Labradorite stone at a gem and mineral show, and fell in love with its opalescent gleam.  Depending on how the light hits it, it flashes a yellow green in the centre, and violet and bluegreen at the top, it was fun just to play with the stone.  I finally decided to suspend it in a circle of silver, with streaks of silver circling off at the tops and side.  Pendant measures 1 3/4″ long including the bail, and 1 1/4″ wide.

It reminds me of the moon caught in waves on the ocean, or peeking through fast moving clouds at night.  One of my favorite pieces.
