Garage Sale Glam – Light of Heart

How can you not feel light in your heart when you’re surrounded by sparkles, butterflies, and flowers?  This is the second of my garage sale glam series, and is almost entirely made of recycled finds from the garage sales I went to this year, with Chinese Crystals to add glitz and shine.

The flower pendant is brushed steel webbing, that has been heated and treated to produce the pinks and golds.  Above it, steel scrolls lead up to a butterfly (mother of pearl inlay) on either side.  The necklace is finished with bright Mediterranean blue and sunny golden yellow Chinese crystals, with coated copper chain and a scroll bar & toggle closure. Total length of this necklace is about 21 inches.

Rose Quartz in Love

Rose quartz is one of those delicately feminine stones, and this sterling silver necklace epitomizes both of those traits. Made with a combination of wire sculpture techniques, this measures 19 inches in length, and closes with a heart shaped clasp.  The long centre stone is embellished with silver scroll work with a three stone herringbone weave dangle detail at the bottom.  Square faceted connector stones lead up to a heart shaped rose quartz stone on either side.  The necklace is completed with herringbone weave rose quartz round and small faceted stones, and sterling silver chain.  Airy and very light weight, this necklace holds the place of pride in my collection.

In Gem lore, rose quartz is considered the stone of love, and corresponds to the sign of Libra and to the planets of Venus, Mars, and the moon.  It is also an alternate stone for January’s birthstone of Garnet.

Mystic Topaz Ring

A sparkling 8 mm mystic topaz shoots out gorgeous greens, blues, and purples from a whirlpool setting of mixed sterling silver and 14 carat gold filled wire.  This ring is size 7 1/4.

Topaz is associated with the sign of Sagittarius and is the anniversary stone for the fourth, nineteenth, and twenty third years of marriage.

Mystic Topaz is an enhanced or altered topaz.   Usually beginning as a clear stone, w hen topaz is exposed to titanium vapors there is a  chemical reaction, resulting in the multicolors of  mystic topaz.

Garage Sale Glam – Dark Gothic

This very unique necklace is made of garage sale finds that have been ‘renovated’ as well as crystals and semiprecious stones already in my stock of goodies.  From bottom to top:

Tawny picture jasper rose, black steel roses, Swarovski crystals and feathers, deep purple Chinese crystals, black agate & copper.  All of the handmade links in this piece are coated copper that will not tarnish, necklace closes with a simple lobster clasp.  Total length of necklace is 28 inches.  (Fun thing to do – when wearing this, cross the feathers over to the inside of the ‘V’ for a ladder effect.

Simple Citrine Ring

Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to go, as in the case of this 6mm bright yellow Citrine ring.  Set in a whirlpool of sterling silver, this ring is size 6.

Citrine stones are said to bring money to their owner.  The gemstone Citrine is the official birthstone for the month of November and belongs to the astrological signs of Gemini, Aries, Libra & Leo.

Turitella Agate with Seed Pearls

A beautiful design cut piece of Turitella Fossil Agate, with creamy snails and rich reds and browns. Set in sterling silver, tiny seed pearls were added after to highlight the creams in this stone, and to lead down from the filigree work at the top of the pendant.  This long sleek pendant measures 2.5 inches in length including the bale, and 2/3 of an inch in width.  Comes boxed for gift giving.

Turritella fossils are from the Eocene Epoch, and are about 38 to 54 million years old. Agate attracts good luck and is considered a protective stone against danger.
