Spun from very fine colored copper wire, with Czech crystal topaz accents, these amethyst and copper Ojo de Dios Earrings are rich in color and lightweight. Very dainty they measure six eights of an inch wide, and an inch in length. The light amethyst Czech crystal accents in the center, sides, and bottom catch the light in a very subtle sparkle. Ear wires are surgical steel.
The Ojo de Dios or Eye of God is thought to have originated among the Huichol Indians of Jalisco, Mexico. As a symbol of the power of seeing and understanding unknown things, the four points represent earth, fire, air, and water. In making an Ojo, we are expressing a prayer that the eye of God will watch over us (or the person we are making it for) and grant us (them) health, fortune, and a long life. The Ojo becomes a physical representation of the prayer. Historically, when a child was born, the central eye was woven by the father, then one eye was added for every year of the child’s life until the age of five.
